The fast bowler Poised for a Significant Contribution in the Ashes

Test match action

The pace bowler has taken over 300 dismissals in 71 Test matches with an stellar bowling average.

The Australian chief selector the selector has stated that pace spearhead Cummins will be a central figure in the forthcoming historic rivalry.

There were concerns that the veteran bowler might miss the series due to a persistent back stress problem that had not yet healed.

Initial reports from the Australian camp suggested no official announcement had been made regarding his involvement, with the Test matches kicking off on the 21st of November in Perth.

Bailey expressed that his recovery is on track and remained hopeful about his chances of being involved.

"It's clear that the window is narrowing and multiple considerations involved, not just the back issue, but additional elements," he commented.

"We're encouraged. We firmly believe that he'll participate in a significant role. Ideally it's the first Test. Otherwise, we'll reassess."

Past Concerns

He was sidelined the ODI and T20 games against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals recently after scans revealed a stress reaction in his back.

Previous incidents include of recurring issues, with recurrences in several earlier campaigns causing him to miss three Australian summers in a short span.

The bowler mentioned he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his comeback strategy to make the squad for the Ashes.

Bailey noted that there was no confirmation if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his rehabilitation but acknowledged it was "getting tight" for him to regain fitness for the first Test.

Contingency Plans

Should Cummins not be fit, ex-skipper Smith will lead the side.

All-rounder Cameron Green was recently pulled out from the ODI lineup for their limited-overs matches against the subcontinent side as a preventive step because of discomfort in his torso.

He labeled it as a "slight concern and stated that Green will play in the state-level matches, so will be "in a good place to resume bowling."

"Considerable effort has gone into developing the strategy for him to take part for the opening match as an all-rounder," Bailey explained.

"His involvement was limited to the first two ODIs anyway. The way he swings the bat in limited-overs, even if it just sets him back for another day, the choice was made to approach this more conservatively."
