Vehicles in German Town Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were notified by a individual who noticed a automobile in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.

Police then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials report initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they stated.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.

A high-ranking official said the incident made him stunned and required to be addressed promptly.

"This act affects the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
